Ranking Disney: #39 – The Rescuers Down Under (1990)
The Rescuers Down Under is a sequel in the strict sense of the word, but on the other hand, it’s almost not. The characters of Bernard and Bianca are even more so supporting characters here than they were in the first film, which is kind of a shame, since they were the most interesting part of the original.
Overall, the film works, and it is engaging, but relegating the heroes to almost supporting status as well as lacking the charm of the original (not to mention being stuck in the middle of the Disney Renaissance period, which makes its obvious lack of quality compared to those other films seem even more so) make it a pretty limp film in the Disney canon.
