The Box Office Report – May 18-20

Last week, in Box Office…

The Avengers wins again. $103.1 million. Yawn.

Dark Shadows opens to $29.7 million. Somehow this cost $150 million. Considering the quality, they’re lucky they made that much.

Think Like a Man made $5.8 million. Third. Good for them. They’re the only one I feel good for.

This week… BattleshipThe Dictator and What to Expect When You’re Expecting. This might be the worst movie year I’ve seen since 2006.

Battleship will probably make $40 million, or so they say. The Dictator is looking at $18 million. And What to Expect … I don’t fucking care. Call it $15 million.

Holdovers….Avengers is probably looking at another $60 million. Dark Shadows will probably take in another $13-14 million. And that’s it. Nothing else will hit $5 million.

Have I mentioned how much I fucking hate the summer? This is the worst time of the movie year.

This year’s slate of films have been so depressing.
I just went on Metacritic and looked at list of current 2012 releases in order of Metacritic scores. There was not a single film above a score of 80!!! Even “MOONRISE KINGDOM” so far has a 79.
I’d rather watch the Pixar re-releases this weekend (May 25-27) than MIB 3 or Chernobyl Diaries.

What I meant by the first sentence was also “… so far” :)

  3. It’s absolutely atrocious. I’m only legit excited for about six films between now and October. I really hope this year picks up on the back end. That’s what saved 2010 for me.
