My Favorite Disney Songs: #15-11

From here on out, it’s singalong time.

There’s gonna be almost nothing underneath each song. We’re just gonna listen to them and sing along.

Obviously these are the best Disney songs. Let’s not even pretend. At this point we’re just celebrating the brilliance that is Disney songwriting. (P.S. 20-16 can be found here.)

Here we go, folks — 15-11:

15. “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King,” from The Lion King

Oh yeah, that’s right. You know you know the lyrics.

How about a shout out to the animation in this number? It’s so colorful.

#14 is a song that encapsulates an entire franchise.

14. “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” from Toy Story

What this song means — especially after the third film — you can’t deny this is a top 15 for all time.

You can actually sing this at any speed and tempo you want and change the entire meaning of the song. It’s so fucking universal.

P.S. Major shout out to the Gipsy Kings version, “Hay Un Amigo En Mi.”

#13 — well, let’s just say, when those first ten notes hit, you smile. It’s impossible not to.

13. “Under the Sea,” from The Little Mermaid

Come on! Tell me you’re not smiling right now!

Pure, unadulterated joy. That’s what this song is.

Also, that “Darling it’s better / Down where it’s wetter” line — well, yeah. Just, pointing that out.

#12 is the most famous waltz put to screen.

12. “Once Upon a Dream,” from Sleeping Beauty

I wanted to put this in the top ten so badly, but it’s so packed that I couldn’t.

I love this song so much. More waltz songs!

This song is so perfect. This entire scene (and film) is perfect.

Oh… it makes me so happy and so sad at the same time. If only Disney could go back to stuff like this…

And #11 — what a wonderful phrase.

11. “Hakuna Matata,” from The Lion King

I don’t need to say anything about this one.

So I’ll take the time to remind you of a humorous article I wrote about this segment of the film last year.

God, this song is great. Tim Rice and Elton John wrote more amazing Disney songs into one film than anyone else has ever done.

And we’re not even done with it yet. There’s still two more songs left from the film!

Top ten time next. Can you guess what hasn’t gone up yet? Have you been keeping track?

Well, I already gave away two of them. And I bet you can figure at least what three or four of the rest of them are.

It’s really not that surprising. This is pretty much a consensus top ten here.
