Oscars 2012 Update: Costume Designers Guild Nominations
The Costume Designers Guild Nominations were announced today. About a week too late, but — they’re here.
That leaves MPSE (Motion Picture Sound Editors) as the only guild left to announce their nominees (unless they’re being really quiet about it).
This means nothing, since we have our Oscar category, but — they’re here.
EXCELLENCE IN CONTEMPORARY FILM
Beasts of the Southern Wild
The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel
Silver Linings Playbook
Zero Dark Thirty
Once again, contemporary films don’t get nominated at the Oscars.
EXCELLENCE IN PERIOD FILM
This is 3/5 your category — Les Mis, Anna Karenina and Lincoln.
It’s usually 3 period films and 2 fantasy films.
EXCELLENCE IN FANTASY FILM
The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey
The Hunger Games
Snow White and the Huntsman
The two Snow White films are your two final ones. Which is basically what most people would have extrapolated from these nominations. Most people would have went for those five, The Hobbit and Argo as the main seven.

So yeah… those are your nominations for the Costume Designers Guild Awards.
After this, it’s just MPSE and then we lay low until next Saturday when the Producers Guild announces their shit, and stuff really picks up (and then SAG is next Sunday). I’ve felt all along that Argo is gonna take the PGA. I’ve just had that feeling since they announced it. It’s getting stronger now that it’s winning all this other stuff. But… we’ll see what happens.
