Oscars 2016: PGA Awards

This will be quick.

The PGA Awards were tonight.

La La Land won. As if there were any doubt about that one.

The only chance Moonlight really had was to pull off a win here. But theoretically if BAFTA and SAG were to go for it, we could mount a decent argument that they’d go there, even though the PGA is always the thing.

In 27 previous years where the PGA gave out awards, they’ve only differed from the eventual Best Picture winner 8 times. Which is almost 1/3, I’m aware. But going back, they’ve only differed twice over the past decade. They were on an eight year run before last year. They’re generally pretty good about it. Plus — do we really think La La Land is gonna lose at this point?

And Zootopia won for Animated, which basically confirms that it’s the frontrunner and expected winner at the Oscars.

So really all we got out of this were confirmation of expected winners.
