Oscars 2017: AFI Top Ten Films of the Year
AFI announced their top ten films.
I generally don’t put too much stock in them, since NBR is the big one for me. AFI just feels populist compared to them. Generally it’s mostly the same list as NBR, using the same one or two ‘buzz’ films that you’d expect them to have. In a year like this, you can straight up get at least eight or nine right off the top of your head.
Here’s what we got this year:
The Big Sick
Call Me By Your Name
The Florida Project
The Shape of Water
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Call me By Your Name, Get Out, Florida Project, Lady Bird, The Post, Shape of Water, Wonder Woman — all obvious choices. The Big Sick was likely, as was Dunkirk. Dunkirk was 50/50. Three Billboards seemed likely based on everyone else’s acclaim for it, but I’m still iffy on it just because it feels like a hard film to like for them.
This looks like the majority of your Oscars right here. Maybe you get one other movie that comes on, but this is it. Should be a decent year for them overall.
