Oscars 2017: SAG Awards

The SAG Awards were given out tonight.

Here are the winners:

Best Ensemble

The Big Sick

Get Out

Lady Bird

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Winner: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

It had two acting winners. Seemed like the easy choice. Though without a PGA win, it’ll need to take down BAFTA to have any sort of chance against Shape of Water.

Best Actor

Timothee Chalamet, Call Me By Your Name

James Franco, The Disaster Artist

Daniel Kaluuya, Get Out

Gary Oldman, Darkest Hour

Denzel Washington, Roman J. Israel Esq.

Winner: Gary Oldman, Darkest Hour

Well, that was anticlimactic.

Best Actress

Judi Dench, Victoria and Abdul

Sally Hawkins, The Shape of Water

Frances McDormand, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Margot Robbie, I, Tonya

Saoirse Ronan, Lady Bird

Winner: Frances McDormand, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

That pretty much seals that deal too.

Best Supporting Actor

Steve Carell, Battle of the Sexes

Willem Dafoe, The Florida Project

Woody Harrelson, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Richard Jenkins, The Shape of Water

Sam Rockwell, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Winner: Sam Rockwell, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri

Looks like he’s taking this one home too.

Best Supporting Actress

Mary J. Blige, Mudbound

Hong Chau, Downsizing

Holly Hunter, The Big Sick

Allison Janney, I, Tonya

Laurie Metcalf, Lady Bird

Winner: Allison Janney, I, Tonya

The reason I didn’t bother writing up a guesses article earlier today is because I assumed everything here would confirm what I already knew. Not surprisingly, they just locked the same four acting winners I figured I’d get.

At this point, I don’t see how any one of those four people lose at the Oscars. BAFTA is the only thing that could potentially sway, and even then, it’s gotta be someone very specific for it to matter.

Best Stunt Ensemble

Baby Driver

War for the Planet of the Apes

Wonder Woman

Winner: Wonder Woman

SAG is pretty big. This makes sense.

Jeff Daniels, Godless

Robert De Niro, The Wizard of Lies

So that’s SAG. Not a single surprise in the bunch. And you pretty much just locked your four acting categories. If Shape of Water wins BAFTA and the DGA, you might have the entire top of the Oscars locked with weeks to go.

Hell, we’re practically there and they haven’t even announced nominations yet!
