A Pictorial History of the Movies: 1926 – The General

I like this movie better than any movie Charlie Chaplin ever made.

I just felt I should get that out there. I think this is one of the five greatest films of the silent era. This holds up as one of the best films of all time. It’s so brilliant, from start to finish. Buster Keaton is an absolute genius.

So the film is really famous, the shots are iconic, and the film is automatically the choice for 1926 no matter how you look at it. And we should all understand that. So instead of wasting my time explaining the choice, I’m just gonna tell you how awesome Buster Keaton is and how incredible this movie is.

Because it is incredible. And it’s probably one of my favorite hundred movies, if I had to put them into a list. (more…)
