Mike’s Favorite Female Supporting Performances of the Decade (70-61)

I make ‘favorite performance’ lists every year, and I get that these lists, more than the rest, are the most subjective one can make. Because it’s really about what you see in each performance and what you respond to; There’s no objective way to truly rate a performance as better than another. With whole films, it feels easier to make that distinction. So with these lists, I’m just gonna focus on some performances from the decade that I really, really enjoyed, and the goal here is just to shout them out and maybe get some people to watch the films if they hadn’t or reevaluate each of the performances the next time they watch the films.

These are my favorite female supporting performances of the decade: (more…)

Mike’s Favorite Original Songs of the Decade: #145 – “Hair Body Face,” from A Star Is Born

145. “Hair Body Face,” from A Star Is Born

And A Star Is Born makes its entrance into the playing field. This is our first entry from this movie. And I’ll tell you right now, I don’t know if I left out a single song from this entire movie. They’re all great. Every single song. And I think there’s like 17 on this list. That’s how good they all are. Even the songs that are supposed to be ‘bad’ are good.

The songs that, obviously, are gonna go the lowest for me are the ‘Ally’ songs, since they’re meant to be dumb pop. But you know what, when you have Lady Gaga writing your ‘pop’ songs, they’ve gonna be better than the usual nonsense. It’s almost disturbing how talented she is and how good all of the songs in this movie are. Most movies can’t write a good song. 17 for this one!
