Fun with Franchises: Favorite Images from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

This is the first time we’re doing this here, so it’s gonna be a bit of a learning curve for us. The first two weeks are gonna be a bit bumpy, since the first two movies only have four parts to them. That gave us an extra day to deal with. But we figured out how to deal with that. I’ll explain that part later. For now, and for every other week except this one and next one where we do a Fun with Franchises article, they will be five parts to them, Monday to Friday, and then Saturday we’ll do the same article we’re doing here, and on Sunday, we’ll write up our final thoughts about the film we covered all week. And the process will reset on Monday again.

But for our purposes right now, what we’re doing is picking out what were our favorite images from the film we’ve just spent the week covering. It’s pretty simple. We’re just gonna pick out the shots we like best. For whatever reason. It doesn’t have to be because it’s a really famous image. We could just like it because it has boobies in it. You know us. We have no morals.

What we did was each set aside a group of like, 15 or 20 shots each, then compared lists and whittled them down to a final list of ten, mostly from going, “Hey, you like this one, and I like this one, so there we go.” It’s not a complicated process at all. And for fun, we’re also gonna list a couple honorable mentions that just missed the final cut but are shots we enjoy anyway.

This is the first time we’re doing this, so the process and such might change, but whatever. It’s a work in process. It’s like a pilot. We’ll tweak shit in season if need be. I remember when I started watching Burn Notice when it came out, and Gabrielle Anwar originally had the Irish accent, and by episode four they had her start doing an American accent and explained it by her saying, “I need to fit in and not seem like ex-IRA,” and then she spoke like that from there on out and they never mentioned it again. That’s how we operate around here.

That said — here are our favorite images from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: (more…)

Pic of the Day: ♫ “You only live twice / Or so it seems / One life for yourself / And one for your dreams. / You drift through the years / And life seems tame / Till one dream appears / And love is its name. / And love is a stranger / Who’ll beckon you on / Don’t think of the danger / Or the stranger is gone. / This dream is for you / So pay the price / Make one dream come true / You only live twice.” ♫

Fun with Franchises: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001), Part IV — “Sorry You Almost Died, Here’s Some Milk Duds”

What better way to start Fun with Franchises than with the king of all franchises (that we haven’t done yet)? This is the highest grossing franchise of all time, and is without a doubt the main one I grew up with, so it made sense to start with it. Harry Potter is by far the one franchise that every single one of my friends and I could make jokes and references to and have everyone get those jokes and references. Plus it’s just great.

I had so much fun with the Disney films and later the Bond films, I thought, “Let’s just try this with everything else.” Essentially this is us just watching these movies that we can talk endlessly about because we grew up with them and just cracking jokes and asking all these logical questions. It’s all for fun and basically for parody. We do this because we love them.

And that’s Fun with Franchises. Right now, we’re doing the Harry Potter franchise, and today is the fourth and final part of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Fun with Franchises: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001), Part III — “That Would Have Made a Nice Christmas Card… If You Weren’t Murdered”

Fun with Franchises: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001), Part I — “Voldemort: What a Cunt He Was”

So this is Fun with Franchises. Right now, we’re doing the Harry Potter franchise, and today is the first part of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (also known as Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone to you Brits, and Australians, and… Canadians, and… the woman who wrote the book).
