Fun with Franchises: Our Favorite Images from The Matrix

One of the recurring features that we do in Fun with Franchises (a feature within a feature) is, after we finish watching a film, we go through and pick out our favorite images from that film. These images could be anything from really famous images from the film or franchise, really beautifully composed shots, shots that are funny to us because of the facial expressions being made in them or because of what we said about them in the article in which they appeared, or simply because they have boobs in them.

How we do this is, in the same way we watch the films, Colin and I separately pick out about ten to fifteen shots that we really liked. (This typically ends up being him picking out around 30 and me having around 70.) Then we compare lists, and whichever ones we both chose automatically make our final list. Everything else we talk through. We have it down to a science by now. Within four total emails, we’re left with a final list of ten images we liked the best, along with ten honorable mentions, which were also as good, but just missed out on making the list proper. (And then more we just work in. Just cause.)

It’s not very complicated (like most things we do here at B+ Movie Blog), and is just a way for us to point out shots that we really liked in the films, especially since we tend to pick stuff that’s not always on the beaten path. (We also don’t officially rank the list of shots. We just put them in chronological order. Simply picking them is hard enough. We don’t want to make our lives any harder. Plus, we’re lazy.)

That said — here are our favorite images from The Matrix: (more…)

Fun with Franchises: The Matrix (1999), Part VI — “Just Go Ahead, Jump Into a Guy”

We continue with another entry in our Fun with Franchises series. This week’s film is The Matrix.

Fun with Franchises is a series born out of my friend Colin and I realizing how much fun it was for the two of us to watch the same movie separately and then share our reactions. We started by watching all of the James Bond movies, for the purposes of ranking them for the blog. I brought him in because he was much more of a Bond expert than I was at the time, and I felt his perspective would liven things up. He would be the color commentator to my play-by-play man.

We soon discovered that, by watching the movies separately and then putting everything we said together in the same place, hilarity ensued. We each brought in our own observations, not knowing what the other would say, and then reacted to what the other said. And we loved every minute of it.

We had so much fun, we figured we had to do it again. So we graduated from a single franchise, to all franchises. If you’re gonna have fun with franchises, it wouldn’t be right if you didn’t franchise it. Season 1 included the Harry Potter movies, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Twilight (which neither of us had seen before we watched them for the articles) and Pirates of the Caribbean. All of those articles can be read on the Fun with Franchises page.

Also, just so we’re clear, this is all for parody. We’re just messing with them because we love them. (Well… Twilight…) We’re watching movies we enjoy and are simply having some fun with them.

Right now, we’re doing the Matrix franchise, and today is the sixth and final part of The Matrix.

Fun with Franchises: The Matrix (1999), Part I — “$2,000 Whiter Than Usual”

It’s good to be back. Welcome to the second season of Fun with Franchises. We take long breaks because we bring the quality. We’re welcoming it back with a franchise that’s sure to lead to some interesting discussions between the two of us — The Matrix.

The way Fun with Franchise works is: my friend Colin and I, we realized it was insanely fun for the two of us to watch the same movie separately, and then write jokes about it. The fun being that we each bring in our own observations, and then play off of each other, and somehow, despite watching these movies completely separately, always manage to say the exact same things at the exact same times. It’s basically what you do with your friends when you watch movies together, except we’re doing it completely independently, and then combining notes. Trust me, it’s way more fun than it sounds when I explain it. Also, just so we’re clear, this is all for parody. We’re just messing with them because we love them. (Well… Twilight…)

Originally, we started with the Bond movies, and that was so much fun it graduated from a one-off to a series. Last time we did this, we did the Harry Potter franchise, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Twilight (which neither of us had ever seen before we watched them for the articles), and Pirates of the Caribbean. You can read all those articles here. They were so much fun for us, we decided to continue. If you’re gonna have fun with franchises, it wouldn’t be right if you didn’t franchise it.

So that’s essentially Fun with Franchises. Right now, we’re doing the Matrix franchise, and today is the first part of The Matrix.
