Oscars 2019: ASC Nominations

The American Society of Cinematographers announced their nominees today. With them as the guild, we’ll get BAFTA nominees soon and we have BFCA nominees already. Between the three, we’ll figure out the category.

As a reminder, BFCA nominated 1917, Ford v Ferrari, The Irishman, Joker, The Lighthouse and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Which will be important in a second, because here are the ASC nominees:

The 2020 Film Release Calendar: February

Because of a calendar quirk, and the fact that the Oscars are happening at least two weeks earlier than they normally do, this year’s Film Release Calendar is being much more segmented than it usually is. Most of the time I do January through May or June the first few days of the year and then Oscar nominations happen and then I finish the last half toward the end of January. This year, Oscar nominations are out in ten days and then I only have time to go over Oscar categories before Oscar night. It’s that short this year. So the rest of the Release Calendar is going to be posted in February. But to make sure I’m covered for these first two months, I posted January’s yesterday and February’s is today.

We’re gonna go over all the films set to come out in February and then move onto all the other important articles I need to post before Oscar nominations come out.

So without further ado, here’s February: (more…)

Oscars 2019: AFI Awards

So apparently the AFI Awards were announced a month ago and I just wasn’t paying attention. Mostly because they don’t matter. Turns out, today is the luncheon for them. Oh well.

Typically they do get 6-7 Best Picture nominees on their list. Last year they had 5 on their list proper with Roma as a ‘Special Award’. Having only seen the list just now, as I’m posting it, this looks exactly like all the other lists everyone else has been putting out. You’re probably looking at the same 6-7 as per usual, depending on what films ultimately get left off in the end.
