My Favorite Male Lead Performances of 2012

If there’s one thing I noticed I don’t really do enough, it’s actually sit down and single out specific performances I loved for a year. I’ll single out movies and stuff, but the only time I mention performances that I felt were particularly strong is when I talk about the films. So I felt I should actually sit down and figure out just which performances I felt were my favorite for the year in film that was 2012.

It’s actually kind of hard to do when you get into it. Because you find yourself instantly going to the performances that all the awards groups single out. Naturally if most people put it down, you feel like that’s an easy one to put down as well. So what I did was — I carefully considered every movie I saw in 2012 and actually thought about how I felt about the specific performances in them, from lead to supporting. And that’s how I made my list.

Today I’ll be covering all the male lead performances I loved. They’re in order, but they’re not really in any order. The numbers don’t really matter. I just wanted to single out performances I thought were really strong without paying attention to what’s Oscar-ish and what isn’t.
