Oscars 2015: Best Makeup & Hairstyling Shortlist

You know what I love about the Best Makeup & Hairstyling Shortlist? It’s only 7 films. And of the 7, three will be nominated. And you can usually guess how it’s gonna go.

Here, we have six films everybody knows, and one that came completely out of nowhere. (And watch it get nominated.)

2015: The Year in Reviews (Part III)

More reviews.

We all know I watch a lot of films this year. And at the end of each year, I recap them all and see, based on what I said about them at the beginning of the year, how close I ended up being. But also, in between, I make it easier on myself by putting up reviews so I don’t have to remember 300 some-odd movies all at once.

I put up three sets of articles — one in April, one in August, one in December, right before the recap articles start going up. Very simple. Just reviews of everything I’ve seen so far, and telling you what I’ve yet to see, or won’t be seeing.

Pic of the Day: “Where do you think you’re going? Nobody’s leaving. Nobody’s walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no. We’re all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here. We’re gonna press on, and we’re gonna have the hap, hap, happiest Christmas since Bing Crosby tap-danced with Danny fucking Kaye. And when Santa squeezes his fat white ass down that chimney tonight, he’s gonna find the jolliest bunch of assholes this side of the nuthouse.”

Oscars 2015: Critics Choice Nominations

The BFCA announced their nominations today, and I’m really interested to see which way they go. They’re quietly one of the more helpful precursors out there.

They tend to also be somewhat populist, but you can see when they are. And you can also get a sense of what the sneaky contenders are going to be (or if there are going to be any. It’s hard to tell this year).

It’s very early in the game, so I’m curious to see how much their nominees fit with what seems to be the same group of films that are out there.
