The Oscar Quest: Weakest Best Picture Categories

Well, I did the strongest ones. Have to do the weakest ones too. I actually set out to do the weakest ones first, and then used the logic from the first two sentences.

I wanted to see if the years I consider bad decisions were the result of weak categories or not. Now it’s just –which do I think are the weakest categories. So, let’s find out.

The Oscar Quest: Strongest Best Picture Categories

All decisions aide — we’re not dealing with what won and what didn’t, just the categories — I’m going to list what I consider to be the strongest Best Picture categories of all time.

I don’t think enough attention is paid to really strong categories. As someone who just completed an entire Quest, I for one really like when a category is strong, because I’d prefer being able to see four or five great movies instead of having one or two and an easy category to decide.

We’re talking overall strong categories. Now, many years have two or three exceptionally strong films, and then the other two are weak or just terrible choices. So what I did was found years with the highest percentage of great nominees. Of course, the other nominees could be downright terrible, but I went for the ones that could be considered the strongest overall years.

So, here are my choices for the top ten strongest Best Picture categories. They’re good. (more…)
