Attempting to Rank Every Film I Saw in 2015

A tradition on this site. I look at the list of every movie I saw in 2015 (which can always be found on the Films I’ve Watched Since Graduation page), and rank them all.

It’s different from listing my favorites like I do with the Top Ten List. This is straight up ranking. I liken it to the card game War. Start with two cards. Which one is higher? In this case, which of these two would I watch first? Which did I like more? Okay, now add another movie. Where does it go in relation to the first two? And you keep going until you have an entire list.

Five Word Reviews of the Films of 2015

This became a new tradition last year. I thought up a funny review and realized it succinctly reviewed the movie and my feelings about it in five words. It reminded me of those six word short stories people do. So I decided to try it with every movie I saw. And here we are.

Some examples of five word film reviews from last year, to give you an idea of what we’re going for: Nightcrawler — If It Bleeds, It Leads; Whiplash — Blood, Sweat and Drum Sticks; Boyhood — Boy Grows Up on Film; Chef — Food as Metaphor for Movies; The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby — Father McKenzie: Still at Large; The Maze Runner — “Fuck You, Maze” — The Runner.

I think you get the idea. It’s a fun exercise to try. And of course, me being me, I try it 300 times. Here are five word film reviews of the movies I saw in 2015: (more…)

Pic of the Day: “The reason why I’m here is because a buddy of mine who’d been in ‘Nam took his own life today. This is kind of a funeral service. And I’m here because I’m trying to tell people, man, if we want to commit suicide, we have plenty of reasons to do it right here at home. We don’t have to go to Vietnam to find reasons to kill ourselves. I just don’t think we should be over there.”
